Full of history and diversity, Massachusetts offers everything from cobblestone streets and village greens to space-age technology centers. Tourism has become an important factor because of its numerous recreational areas and historical landmarks. Cape Cod is a land at sea: more than 500 miles of coast and beaches for every taste. The ocean will provide the choicest of morsels: Wellfleet oysters, Chatham mussels, Provincetown swordfish, and Harwich lobster. The Berkshires, in the western part of the state, is the site of Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony and museums.

Massachusetts has cold winters and moderately warm summers, with cooler temperatures in the Berkshires year round. Warm and sunny from May to October, followed by cold winters. The autumn is spectacular: the climate and variety of hardwoods produce vibrant colors, attracting visitors worldwide. Winter snowfall in and around Boston is considerable, with higher levels in the Berkshires.
