Nevada is casino country, centered on the capital of kitsch, Las Vegas, and the other smaller towns where the main income earner is gambling. Las Vegas is one of the major gambling and entertainment centers of the world. Las Vegas is probably the easiest place in the world in which to get married. Around 230 marriage licenses are issued per day. The state does have a few scenic attractions of interest to visitors. Around Las Vegas, Lake Mead is popular with fishermen and water sports enthusiasts, while both the Red Rock Canyon and the Valley of Fire State Park have magnificent desert scenery.

The weather is fairly dry most of the year, but thunderstorms are frequent in the summer. Nevada is basin and range country, with about 250 mountain ranges running north–south. The climate in Nevada is arid with abundant sunshine, light rainfall and snow. The summers in Las Vegas are hot and the winters are cool, making spring and autumn the best and most popular times to visit.
